Olivia Newton-John – If Not For You

September 1, 2008 | 1971, Female, Top 40

If Not For You was the first International hit for Olivia Newton-John. The song written by Bob Dylan and it appeared on his 1970 album, New Morning.

Newton-John recorded in 1971 and was a minor hit in the US reaching Number 25. It wouldn’t be until 1973 years before she would have her breakout year with the release of the album Let me Be There.

The title of her first album took its name from this song.

It’s not hard to forget she had a record in 1971, but fans sure remember this and were sure it wouldn’t be long before she became a star.

The song was also recorded by Beatle George Harrison during the All Things Must Pass sessions. It did not make the 3 record set.
